Los Angeles Web Design Tutoring

coronavirus cat with face mask With the advent of technology, social distancing and the outbreak of COVID-19, 2020 has all of us embracing online education with Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, WhatsApp and through in-site apps like Wyzant. Since 2013, I have offered in-person and online tutoring via WyzAnt to people of all ages and educational backgrounds. I safely do in-person tutoring from almost all areas of Central, North and West Los Angeles. You can directly send me tutoring inquiries through my contact page or through Wyzant here.

I offer a background of teaching students one-on-one and in large groups as a teaching assistant for various universities, including University of California, Santa Cruz, Otis College of Art & Design, and Goldsmiths, University of London over the last decade. Students of mine come from a variety of universities, including most recently University of California, Los Angeles, University of Southern California, Santa Monica College and the Art Institutes. My artistic inclination is cerebral. I have formal training in digital media and specialization in web design issues includes code (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript). My experiences in creating and editing manual and digital photography help enhance my proficiency.

I graduated with a Ph.D. in Arts & Computational Technology from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Master’s Degree in Digital Arts & New Media from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I also have a Master’s Degree in Writing (Poetry) from Otis College of Art & Design in Los Angeles.

I am very easy to access and have a centrally located tutoring space with wifi and outlets. I am an avid bicyclist and will never complain about driving/parking or use it as an excuse for being late since it takes me roughly five to thirty minutes to get within a ten-mile radius of my home location in Los Feliz.

Tutoring Subjects:

Web Design

I work as a professional web designer and I have helped tutor students primarily in web design since I joined Wyzant in 2013. Both small and large groups of students have been in my care as a teaching assistant during the completion of my Ph.D. in Arts and Computational Technology and MFA in Digital Arts and New Media. My experience in helping both students and professionals encompasses building web portfolios and commercial sites. Since web design encompasses a variety of platforms, each student may have varying levels of expertise and desire for using different programs and sites. I help students to work with what is most comfortable to them but I am also happy to make suggestions. WordPress, for example, offers an interface and customization scheme to edit custom templates that I have helped familiarize many students to use. I am also skilled in helping students design and customize their projects in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.

Web Building Tools

I am qualified to tutor students in web building tools like Adobe Dreamweaver. Virtually all of the web design and publishing projects that I have completed or I have assisted others with completing are done through the aid of Dreamweaver. I am specialized in working with linear interfaces, non-linear interfaces, and interaction design through my graduate and doctoral studies in Digital Arts and New Media and Arts and Computational Technology. My skills include helping show how to navigate the front-end and back-end of the intuitive layout of Dreamweaver. I have formally taught individual and large groups of students how to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with the aid of Dreamweaver for over ten years. Dreamweaver is a great way of visually showing how to link these three separate types of codes together. Students often come to me from a variety of creative web-based projects that they often need help completing or understanding by using this program as the framework.

HTML

HTML is a great tool to have for anyone who uses the web. Students can learn how to create simple to dynamic webpages with this relatively easy and versatile script that more than often accompanies CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. Since 2013, a variety of students have gotten my help with building their websites using HTML as the base of the project and PHP as the framework on WordPress or eCommerce sites, for example. Students can get my help in designing the appearance of their websites. I can show them how HTML and CSS closely intertwine through HTML classes and CSS scripts on a webpage. Students can also get my help with the development of interaction using JavaScript on SoundSlides, for example, and HTML forms. I built hundreds of websites. And I hold over ten years’ worth of knowledge in teaching others how to proficiently use HTML as it accompanies everything as the structural base and JavaScript, PHP, and CSS to help support it.
